This, more than any other holiday, was very special for us as while we were away we celebrated our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. We were hoping all would go well, we were not dissapointed.

The highlight of our stay in Venice was not only the central location of the Hotel Colombina but the beautiful room 104 overlooking a unique canal. From start to finish we felt part of the venetian experience as gondolas continuously drifted by throughout the day and early evening.

We particulary enjoyed your complimentary bottle of bubbly, a very kind thought, as we stood on our small balcony almost at gonfola level making a host of new friends.

The hotel itself was small and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, it made for an unforgettable romantic five day break, we can't thank you enough.

Yours sincerely

Barbara & Rob Knight

India - Cheylesmore

Donna,

Thanks for your letter which we received on our return. Our holiday was absolutely fantastic and everything went according to plan. I have filled in a feedback form from Indus which expresses our delight and satisfaction with the holiday overall but also raises one or two issues, which in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the trip, but which we could have been made aware of in their information pack. Namely, the visits to the government shopping outlets which were included in the tours each day. We came under very heavy pressure to buy goods from these shops and it was rather awkward on one or two occasions and took up time which could have been spent at the sites. Had we been made aware by Indus of the possible inclusion of these emporia in the tours we could have avoided them. Secondly, we were rather disappointed in Emirates compared to other airlines we have flown with. The food, particularly on our return journey was not very good, the choice of films was rather limited and the stewards were not the most charming we've experienced. These are only minor complaints and in no way spoiled what was otherwise a memorable and thought provoking experience.

Thank you for your assistance in organizing it.

Liz and Derek

Tina Nason - Crystal Cruises

Crystal Cruises – the perfect choice!
Voted “World’s Best” 18 years running by Conde Nast readers and they are certainly not wrong!
A short break was just what the doctor ordered – we boarded Crystal Serenity in Barcelona and spent 6 glorious nights on board this fabulous ship. The staff were attentive and discreet, nothing was too much trouble the food was fantastic with no less than five dining options. We had overnight in port in both Barcelona and Monte Carlo, a full day in Livorno where we hopped on the train to delightful Florence and finished up exploring Rome before we flew home. A wonderful short break, great value for money at the very top end of the cruise market .. but beware once you have done it you will be hooked!
Top tip ask about meet and greet service at London Heathrow, not much more than standard parking prices and a lot less hassle!

Stephanie - Coventry

Dear Stephanie,

We just want to say a massive thank you for arranging our holiday to Las Vegas and Florida for us. This was the first time we’d been on a twin centre holiday (and definitely won’t be the last!) and not only did you find us the best deal you also made it really hassle free for us. We were a bit apprehensive about keeping track of all of our flights and booking details but the itinerary pack you gave us before we went away was excellent at keeping us in order.

Las Vegas was absolutely brilliant! We had a wonderful 4 nights at the MGM Grand. Our room in the West Wing of the hotel was perfect – large, modern and comfortable – and the hotel’s location at the top of the main strip was ideal for exploring (there is so much to see!).

Thanks also for recommending Clearwater Beach in Florida to us. It was exactly what we’d asked for – a chill out retreat after our busy few days in Vegas. The service at The Hilton was great and its location right on the sandy white beach front was just stunning. The atmosphere in Clearwater was very relaxed and there were more than enough bars and restaurants to keep us entertained for a week (all very reasonably priced too).

The hire car and sat nav you arranged for us in Florida was great – we needed it! We decided to upgrade to a convertible Mustang when we arrived which was so much fun.

All in all we had a wonderful holiday and really appreciate the recommendations you made to us.

See you when we start planning our next holiday!

Best wishes,

Gayle and Kev

Tracy Lea

Hi Tracey,

Just got back from our holiday in America - we had a fantastic time so thank you for all the effort you put in to organising it. We had a brilliant holiday and loved the hotel. Will definitely go back to Turkey as we found the people so friendly and the prices so cheap!

Anyway, our report below just in case it helps other guests out.
Thanks again,
Jo and Ian

Elixir Hotel, Kalkan, Turkey

If you value personal service, this is the hotel for you. The manager (Egerman) was immediately at our side when we arrived and still there when we left! He was somewhat ubiquitous - always there when you wanted something and very keen to help or assist you in any way.

We found all the staff very friendly and courteous, but would single out Pumpkin (the fun barman) and Umuti as the best. It makes such a difference to your holiday to be surrounded by smiley, friendly faces.

We booked a deluxe room which was spacious - but people that were staying in standard rooms did say their rooms were a little small. So book a deluxe if you can.

Lunches at the hotel are huge - we barely managed to eat a single one between us, so beware how much you order - though it's not expensive.

We found Turkey to be very cheap in terms of eating and drinking in restaurants. If you like Rose wine, order Lal - lovely, light coloured rose.

We ate out a lot and would recommend: The Olive Garden, Doydoy and Aubergine. But there are around 300 restaurants in Kalkan to choose from.

Whilst you are staying at the Elixir, do have a Turkish Bath. It was very relaxing (and soapy)!

If there is any negative to the hotel, it is a 15/20 minute walk into town (fine going downhill) but quite a struggle back up (though a taxi ride back up only costs 8 TL (about £3).

Tips:

1. At the Elixir, don’t expect hot water first thing as water is solar heated. Fine by lunchtime and plenty of hot water in the evening.

2. Use taxis to get back up to the hotel at night (so much easier than climbing up the hill) and not expensive.

3. Book a deluxe room – standard rooms are a bit small.

4. Don’t over order. Most restaurants give you a free starter in the form of breads, olives and hummus.

5. Venture out (our hire car only cost about £35 for a day to visit sites like Patara and Kekova).

Jo Cooper

Paris, France

Hi Sue

Just to say thank you so much for all your help in sourcing and arranging the trip to Paris for us. The Opera area we enjoyed very much and found the food extremely good.

We were delighted with the Lunch Cruise ( I did manage to keep that a secret until Vron’s birthday!) food was excellent and afterwards we went to the summit of the Eifel Tower!

L’Tour bus was a good deal we bought a 2 day ticket and saw all the sights.

We will definitely go again and would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and Opera area to your other clients wishing to go to Paris

Once again thank you and Dawn for all your help and advice which was much appreciated.

Kind regards

Steve & Veronica Crozier

Carveiro, Portugal

Another lovely holiday in the Algarve. Carvoeiro is formerly a small fishing village, grown up around a cove with a small sandy beach. These days, we didn't see much evidence of fishing, and the village is really a tourist destination, full of bars and restaurants.

The Tivoli is a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting on the cliff top at the top of the hill out of town. It's about a 10 minute walk down hill into town and no doubt more going back. We took taxis back, at a cost including tip of Euro 5. Our room was sea view (essential!) plus looked over the cliffs, swimming pool and garden areas. The website gives a good perspective. The room was of a standard you expect from Tivoli, with tea/coffee making facilities and the staff were excellent. If you join a global hotel membership scheme, it allows you certain 'priviledges' including a free newspaper each day! Internet access is free.

There is no beach as such at the hotel, but there are steep steps down to the sea and those brave enough can swim in it from there. There is also a cliff top path into town.

The buffet breakfast was good and we ate a couple of times in the dining room (buffet) at night. They had a special offer on at the time. Euros 20 per person for the buffet including a glass of wine or another drink. Very good, but the offer was not advertised anywhere. You had to ask at Reception.

The restaurants in town were also very good and price-wise about the same as you'd pay at home. We enjoyed Martins and the Oasis very much (two visits each). Also a very good Indian.

The only real downside, as far as we were concerned, was that the hotel was a little too far from anywhere else for lunch, i.e. supermarket and/or snack bars. This was only a problem for us, as one of us has walking difficulties. Others would easily be able to walk to nearest cafes and mini-markets, you don't need to go all the way down the hill. Lunch at the pool at the hotel was very limited and quite expensive.

Apart from this last comment for those to whom it might apply, I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and location.

Thanks again Sue and Dawn. We hope to resume our travels in the not too distant future.
Sally & Dave Rogers

Pershore Office - Great Cruise

Thank you for your letter welcoming us home.

The cruise was a great success inspite of the closure of a swimming pool. It annoyed other guests as well and as far as we could make out it was repairs being carried out under warranty.

Calm seas, mill pond in the north Baltic, all the way save for a choppy return down the North Sea. Brilliant weather: wall to wall sunshine for the first twelve days and temperatures from 65-79 degrees. Enjoyed all our trips and Travemunde proved especially memorable as an officially estimated 20,000 lined the shore to greet our arrival at this port which never normally sees a ship of the Elizabeth's size. Possibly as many as 40,000 waved us off; an incredible sight with our National Anthem being piped through loudspeakers and a marching band playing. Food and service top notch but the extras soon add up!

One or two oddities: The requirement to bring a passport photocopy for the group Visa for Russia was never needed and no explanation was given. Some info, such as the need to convert currency in Estonia, was out of date. Estonia has been using the euro since the beginning of the year. Minor points.

Thank you very much for all your courtesy and setting up everything for us. We appreciate what all your staff did. The hotels were great Bercheielli was situated on the river Arno in a nice central position. The Olivi at Sirmione was another good location being very quiet and peaceful.

Both hotels did good breakfasts both had electric toasters and had scrambled eggs and bacon on the buffet.

Ideal for us Brits who like an English breakfast abroad.we had a very nice double room at the Hotel Berchielli. The Hotel Olivi did upgrade our room and we had a wonderful view over the lake. Also a bottle of bubbly in the room waiting for us. Very nice!

Once again thanks for a great holiday, we will no doubt talk soon.

Lynn & Richard Gibson

Pershore & Gambia

Sincere thanks to all at the Pershore Branch for arranging our recent trip to The Gambia. Flights via Gatwick and Banjul were on time and, for a apckage flight, provided a good level of service and on-board catering.

Our chosen hotel, th Bijilo Beach, proved excellent. Although only 3 star, this family run hotel in quiet grounds situated right on the unspoilt beach proved an idyllic location for our two week stay. The hotel restaurant was very satisfactory with both good yet inexpensive table d'hote and a la carte menus. The Scene, a new restaurant only 5 minutes walk along the beach, is highly recommended. The hotel breakfast were adequate if a little linited in variety, but crepes and freshly cooked omelettes were very tasty! Each night between 8 and 9.30 there was a variet of evening entertainment including local drummers and dancers. No loud disco here though and no daytime pool activities or music to disturb the tranquillity!

The staff provided a personal, friendly and efficient service and seemed very happy to be working at the Gambian managed hotel; many have been there some years. True the linen and curtains could do with being updated, but the generous room size in the newer three-storey building more than compensated.

So delighted were we that we will be returning next year - same hotel. Thank you again.

The Gambia Hotels
Atlantic Hotel - Would not recommend. Close to Banjul, virtually no beach. Mosquitoes, beggers, nr Banjul hospital (coffins by front entrance) many complaints from returning clients at airport
The Sheraton - A grom newly built hotel, away from anywhere - would advise further enquiries
Senegambia & Karaba - Large hotels in excellent grounds, though Senegambia has noisy pools. Virtually no beaches at these hotels due to erosion.

Two charte flights arrive within 5 minutes of each other on a hot dusty runway. The single baggage collection belt eventually starts and the scene is a throng of passengers struggling to get a view of the oncoming array of luggage whilst combating the ever-enthusiatic group of porters fighting to carry your cases out of the airport. A quick visit to the gents on the way of the airport and 'oh dear', wish I hadn't bothered! Welcome to The Gambia, West Africa.

Our tour operator, the Gambian Experience, guided us to an awaiting vehicle and off to our chosen venue for the next two weeks. We were revisting The Gambia after a fifteen-year absence. A new tarmac road, street lighting and even the odd traffic lights. Apart from a huge number of unfinished new builds, the country was very much as we remembered.

On recommendation we stayed at the 3 star Bijilo Beach Hotel. Yes, a 3 star and it was idyllic. Run by a Gambian family, the small quiet setting on a wonderful unspoilt beach proved even better than expected. The Gambia provided for us a fortnight of total relaxtion and sunshine amidst a truly lovely people. Yes, there are the bumsters to combat and it can become a serious problem for those not prepared to be approached by numerous young Gambians. The Government and hotels have long been aware of this almost invasive begging situation and now have strict laws in place and licences are given to those bona-fide businesses from restaurants to the fruit seller on the beach.

Daily we walked the beach and often we trekked into the buzzy centre of Kololi to visit the cash machine and for a coffee. A good choice of world food restaurants here, but we usualy opted for the very fine restaurant of our own hotel.

We took a couple of trips with arch Tours of Kololi, a Gambian owned business who were well organised. We visited North Senegal - a real adventure talking the ferry from Banjul. A 5am start on another occasion took us on a bird watching trip based on the riverside venue of Lamin Lodge.

For a winter sunshine holiday which won't break the bank - just six hours average flight time from the UK - you won't be disappointed. After two weeks we weren't really ready to return to the UK, but time's up and we were duly despatched byut The Gambian Experience for our return journey.

The bells rang passing through the secruity gate at the airport. A pat down by the guard and some loose change in my pocket was quickly identified and yes, he was happy to relieve me of a few euro coins! Hey, this is The Gambia, the smiling coast. I smiled at his cheek and moved forward to the departure hall.

We booked the trip through our local agents, Carrick Travel, in Pershore, Worcestershire, and yes, we will be returning next year. Same hotel.

Chris & Sue Hermon

Roca Navaria, Tenerife. The hotel is built onto the peninsula at the end of the road, which provides a lovely sheltered small shady beach and glorious sea bathing area. The sea was warmer that the pools!

The room was excellent, with a partial pool/sea view. Huge king bed. Loads of wardrobe space. Wonderful shower and, unusually, lots of space in the bathroom to put one's stuff.

The buffet food was also excellent for all meals. On top of which there were four restaurants available at this time of year for booking: Mediterranean, Italian, Seafood, Turkish. We ate in three of the four. You must book and booking opens at 11.00. If you don't get to Customer Relations in good time, you can be disappointed. We ate in two of the snack restaurants for lunch, but the buffet is the much better option.

There are games and entertainment all day, every day. You can join in or not. The evening entertainment wasn't that great, but it passed an hour or so after dinner. There is also a quiet pool if you want to escape completely....and a beautiful spa, where the indoor pool and gym are included in the package.

The staff and service (drinks etc) were excellent. No problem there.

There is a local bus (dolmus) into Bodrum several times a day for Turkish Lira 10 return, if you want some town life. There is nothing around the hotel.

The weather was perfect. Low 30s but cool at night, so you didn't need the air conditioning on (good!) but you probably needed a sweater in the evning.

All in all, highly recommendable for a quiet, relaxing, self-indulgent holiday.

E Candy Bruges Trip

Our Bruge trip is one we shall always remember. We spent four nights in Washington which was a great city for children and we stayed at the Holiday Inn Capitol. The hotel was really child-friendly and gave you vouchers for free breakfasts and evening meals as long as your parents at there. The smithsonian Air and Space Museum was really close which was great because it was all free, really interesting and air-conditioned! It was 99oF when we were there. We walked to all the memorials from our hotel and my favourite was the Lincoln Memorial because I had seen it in "Night at the Musuem 2". We caught the sightseeing bus tour from a stop right outside by our hotel. We thought was a good way to get to Arlington Cemetery and all the other sights. This was fun. The only bad thing about the hotel was the railway line at the back of the hotel which was a bit noisy but we were tired from all the walking so it wasnt really a problem.

Next we caught the Amtrak train to New York. The trains were brilliant and really comfortable. Everyone gets a seat and they are like big armchairs with foot rests. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt for four nights in New York. We were on the 34th floor and looked into the Chrysler building. We had our breakfast in Grand Central Terminal because it was too expensive in the hotel. My favourite sights were the tour round the United Nations building and our trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. We also visited Boston and Rhode Island on our trip but Washington was my favourite place.

Thank you
George

Emma-Lou

We had a great holiday in The Dominican Republic-thanks to Carrick travel and Emma-Louise in particular. Found us a lovely hotel, in a wonderful setting.

The Pestana Hotel is a little out of the centre of Cascais in a residential area. There is a small but well stocked supermarket right opposite, with an ATM. The rooms are very comfortable, with two rings and some cooking utensils and a fridge. We didn't cook, but it was useful for making lunch and keeping drinks cold. I would recommend people to pay the extra for the sea view, and you would need to be on the 4th floor or higher (top 6th) to get this. The other rooms on that side of the hotel would view the pool and gardens, which are lovely as well.

The pool and surrounding area are very good and the gardens offer plenty of shade. The pool is indoors/outdoors. The outdoor pool runs into the inside, under perspex pool, which for obvious reasons is much warmer. The jacuzzi is there too. There is a snack bar for lunch. Plenty of sunbeds and pool towels are free from reception.

We only had one meal in the evening in the hotel on our first night. It was good, with plenty of choice, but rather expensive especially when you add on hotel drinks. The breakfast buffet is quite fine too.

When we were there, the hotel was pretty full - many people from Ireland and Holland. I think we were the only English there. Not that it is a problem, all the staff speak good English and are very helpful.

Cascais is still a lovely village/town. The small square in the centre is the main area of activity and where everyone congregates. If you head north off the square, up a small side street, we found a charming local patisserie/restaurant, where a daily changing menu offered excellent meals, with a main dish costing Euro 4.95! At the top of the town, by McDonalds, we also found another lovely local restaurant. We dined on quail a couple of times and couldn't send £20 on a meal for two with local wine. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, however, whatever your price range and taste. Even a couple of Indians and a Thai.

The hotel runs a complimentary bus service into town during the day, from the hotel to the railway station at the top of the town, and does a couple of runs to a nearby beach during high season. In the evenings, till 10pm weekdays and midnight weekends, a local bus "Buscas" (pronounced "Bushcash") runs every 10 minutes. It costs Euro 0.65 per trip and you can jump on or off at any of the stops on the circular route. Its stops (different going to coming back) are a short walk (3 minutes) from the Pestana.

We took the train into Lisbon for the day. A very easy journey even for us oldies; an enjoyable ride along the coast and Lisbon itself is an interesting city to see. We also took a day trip to the summer palace at Sintra. Well worth doing.

Can't think of anything else important to share. All in all, a great place, only 2hrs 10mins flying from London.

Well done and thanks again for another lovely holiday,
Sally & Dave Rogers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get a free e-mail account with Hotmail. Everything went to plan - extra leg room seats on plane, private transfer to and from resort and a wonderful hotel.

We would definitely recommend the Rocks Hotel. The staff are friendly and cannot do enough for you. You just have to ask.

Hotel
For some reason they gave us a twin room, but as soon as we said we wanted a double, they changed it immediately. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need (hairdryer, mini bar, safe, etc).

The staff speak some English and you can generally make yourself understood. We particularly liked the pool staff who were always up for some friendly banter. The pool area is perfect. Lots of sunbeds, towels provided and a bar as well as a lovely, clean swimming pool and access to the sea below (though there is no sand if people are looking for this).

The general manager keeps a close check on his staff and is somewhat ubiquitous. We used to count the number of times we saw him each day. It was always 3 or 4 times (as he comes round to check breakfast, the pool, etc).

Breakfast was a huge buffet with breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, salad, fruit, and hot food which included Haloumi, sausages, bacon, baked beans, and a very friendly egg-chef who would do omelettes, pancakes, etc.

We didn't eat in the hotel at night as there was so much choice down by the harbour.

Spa
Whilst we were there we both enjoyed massages in the spa part of the hotel and I also had a manicure, pedicure and hair cut. All were excellent and it didn't seem to cost very much when you compare it to the UK. Ian also used the gym and whilst there was plenty of equipment, it was a bit hot (more air conditioning needed here).

Kyrenia
Kyrenia harbour is just a few minutes walk from the hotel and on route you pass some stallholders and walk along the water front. There are lots of restaurants to choose between for dinner and plenty of bars offering brandy sours. We were also pleasantly surprised by the local dry white wine which we drank all holiday (gone are the days of dodgy Retsina and Aphrodite!)
We particularly enjoyed eating Meze and fresh fish - just bear in mind you need a big appetite. But there are plenty of restaurants offering more British food (burgers, etc) and Full English Breakfast if that's what you want.

Just bear in mind that the waitors will always try to draw you in as you walk past their places. At the start of the holiday we found this amusing, towards the end we were getting a little fed up - but I guess they are just doing their job.

Diving
We tried two different scuba diving schools. The one we would recommend is Amphora Dive Centre on Escape Beach which you need to take a taxi to. The dive instructor was very professional, the equipment good and the staff friendly and helpful. They also speak perfect English. Escape Beach is lovely so well worth a visit anyway.
We would not recommend the British Dive School (based on Turtle Beach).

Things to do
We took a taxi over to Bellapais monastery and also St Hilarion castle nearby (though you can go on coach tours). Both worth a visit with good descriptions on site. The walls of Kyrenia fort are also worth wandering round.

All in all a brilliant trip.

Thanks a million

Jo and Ian
Jo Cooper

Another Sucess

Dear Helen,

I have been meaning to write to you for some time to congratulate you and, of course, Stephanie on your achievement awards. I first came across the high level of service provided by Carrick last year, when Stephanie and I colluded to construct a surprise 30th birthday trip for my son. Her level of service was so outstanding at the time, that I later booked a similar trip for my daughter, again through Stephanie. My daughter was then one of those caught up in the 'ash' delays ( stuck in San Francisco in fact) and once again Carrick Travel shone through as an organisation that was prepared to go that extra mile to support and care for its customers. I shall be using Carrick for all my travel arrangements in future and have recommended your company to friends and family - in fact, anyone that I know who is looking to book their holidays, secure in the knowledge that they will be well cared for.

Chris Caswell

Stephanie - Cheylesmore Office

‘Congratulations to Steph on her outstanding achievement and to Carrick Travel generally for reaching two final categories. Sue Hoyle

We had a fabulous 2 weeks at Club Hotel Riu Tequila. The hotel is in a lovely setting, built into the "jungle" (i.e. lots of trees and greenery)with two good sized pools and plenty of sunbeds and towels provided. The rooms are around the grounds mostly in 2-storey blocks, 16 to a block. Good sized rooms, with a dressing/bathroom area and separate shower and toilet. Stocked fridge in room, with optics above. Yes optics - gin, vodka, tequila and rum. Ice machines all around the grounds.

The food was excellent, either in the main buffet restaurant or in the a la carte restaurants that we tried: The Steak House and The Bamboo (Asian). There is a third a la carte restaurant, Mexican, but it is at the Rui Yucatan on the beach a bit of a walk away. Only problem with the a la cartes is that you have to get up early to book them - they are quite small and seating goes quickly in the morning. Booking starts at 07.00. The main restaurant gets very busy (the hotel holds 1500 guests) and sometimes there was a bit of a queue for things. But if you gave it 5 mins it usually calmed down again.

Breakfast was in the main buffet restaurant and lunch was by the pool (very good) or in the other hotels. You can use three other Rui hotels: the Rui Yucatan, Rui Playacar and Rui Lupita a bit further away. We only used the Yucatan because this is where you arrive on the beach. They have a pool bar right above the beach and you can eat in the Beach Club restaurant. We also found La Hacienda restaurant in the main part of the hotel and this was much calmer and excellent for lunch as well.

The staff in all the hotels were excellent - happy, smiling, couldn't serve you fast enough - we had to slow them down with the drinks!

Tequila is not on the beach, but a 5-8 minute walk away down a constructed walkway. There is also a trolley cart service that runs all day, except through the lunch break for those less able or unwilling to walk!

And the beach when you get there is terrific. Just re-built from the hurricane/s, it is now, I am told, four times the size it was before we arrived. Plenty of sunbeds and shade. You can walk for miles in either direction too - very safe. On the days when you could swim, the sea was also lovely and warm, warmer than the hotel pool.

Playa del Carmen is the nearest place for bars and restaurants (I can't imagine why you would want them though) and an abundance of over-priced tourist shops. Don't bother would be my comment.

As we have been to the area before, we didn't do any trips, but to others I would definitely recommend Xcel-Ha (the natural water inlet where you can see the most spectacular fish regardless of your swimming ability) and Tuluum for some Mayan culture.

The ONLY down side in our opinion was an 11 hour flight (but only 9 coming back). We know you can work miracles, so please can you move the Yucatan peninsula closer to the UK!

Also, despite Dawn's great recommendation, we did not get to Islas Mujures. It was well over an hour's drive back to Cancun and we were simply too lazy and too contented to move ourselves.
the entertainment! There were all sorts of sports and fitness events all day. Although the hotel is not on the beach, they have built a sand volley ball court by the pool and this is just one of the games on offer. Also Spanish and Salsa dancing lessons. If you want to do nothing, that's OK too, or you can join the beach games from the Rui Yucatan or book water sports activities there. Every evening there is a show which for its type is really quite good and this is preceded by a kiddies participation show, which is charming. There is of course also a children's club for the daytime. In addition, there is the opportunity to paint ceramics which they then fire overnight for you - quite a useful facility during one of the Caribbean downpours, which happen most days for about 30 mins.

Another thing I forgot to mention is the Sports Bar. This is open 24 hours a day for drinks AND has snacks available should one still be hungry.

That's for this one, unless I've forgotten anything....

Thanks again for finding this.
Sally & Dave Rogers

Kyrenia...The Rocks Hotel

Sue, we had a fabulous holiday! The place suited us just right and the weather was gorgeous, if a little hotter (up to 40 degress some days) than usual for early June.

Our expanded comments are as follows:

The hotel is gorgeous. Very luxurious, including the pool area, which we understand has been completely refurbished this year, with new furntiure, chase lounge and other exotic furnishings. Plenty of pool towels, readily dispensed by helpful staff too. The pool is lovely. If you want the sea, the steps from the decking take you straight in (you need to be a swimmer). And there is a pontoon to swim to as well. On some days, I guess depending on the winds etc, the sea can be a bit mucky, but to the credit of the hotel, they also look to clean it up when stuff is washed in.

Breakfast was really a brunch. Served till 11.30 and 12.30 on weekends. Everything from soup, to salads, to eggs, smoked salmon, wonderful breads and pastries, fresh orange juice, fresh fruit and other juices, and Turkish dishes too.

The first room we were given late on arrival Saturday night had no view, except for a huge satellite dish. We were told (a) the hotel was full that night and (b) all no smoking room are at the back! However, we were moved the next day, at our insistance, to a side room (West), with a view of a car park, mountains and a slight sea view if you bent forward! The best rooms without any doubt are the front, sea view. Worth paying the extra for if you spend any time in the room (which as a matter of fact we don't!).

The location is ideal for Kyrenia itself. Just a couple of minutes walk along the road. A most picturesque harbour and medieval town. The restaurants/bars around the harbour can be a bit of rip off, price not quality-wise. However, if you go up into the old town, through the small cobbled streets, there are a multitude of restaurants and bars, many in small courtyard gardens. Very pretty/romantic. And prices the same but for better food than at the harbour. Having said that, we did not have a bad meal in two weeks. For the evening buffet at the hotel they were charging T Lira 45 (£18). We were paying about £30 for two including wine.

All in all, a bit success.
Phew!!

Thanks again for all the arrangements.
Sally & Dave Rogers

Carrick Travel Cheylesmore

Carrick Travel Coventry.

For the past few years I have been booking my holidays through your company, previously to that I was always with Thomson’s but found that I had a couple of bad holiday experiences so I decided to change companies and that’s why I have been with Carrick Travel ever since.
Stephanie has been my travel agent from then we have booked Majorca, Barbados, Disneyland Paris and Cyprus for my family and me. Sue always looks after us very well.

We have just returned from a week's holiday staying at the 5 Star Jardines de Nivaria Hotel on the Costa Adeje, Tenerife. What a great hotel! I would certainly recommend this to anyone wishing to have a quiet, relaxing holiday.

The hotel is run by the Adrien Family, who obviously care a lot about service. They also own two more hotels nearby.

The staff were professional, yet friendly and the hotel was very clean. The room we had on the fourth floor of the Taganana block was a good size with a pool/sea view.
The hotel has a modern take on the Art Noveau theme in the main building, so there are pretty stained glass windows and statues and all topped-off by a huge dome of stained glass depicting the constellations in the sky on the day the hotel opened in the late 1990s! Perhaps that gives a clue to the owner's attention to detail.

The pool-side area is well organised with a restaurant and plenty of space amongst the tropical plants. There is a heated pool, as well as a seawater pool and a jacuzzi. They have a policy of removing towels from any unused sun lounger after an hour, so no problem getting a place by the pool. Not that there was a problem with guests saving pool-side spaces in January.

If I was feeling a bit picky, the only comment I could make is that, although the buffet restaurant had a large and interesting selection of different foods, there was a slight canteen quality to some of the dishes - although that really is being picky!

To the rear of the hotel, is access straight onto the promenade and beach. Turn left (not to be particularly recommended!) to find shops, bars and restaurants with a more busy seaside/resort atmosphere (Cheap beer!). Turn right (definitely to be recommended!) and walk along a beautiful rocky shoreline and quieter beaches with a smattering of up-market shops and bars.

We also spent a couple of days exploring other parts of Tenerife, including the spectacular Mount Teide. There is also some dramatic scenery in the Mercedes Mountains (in the far North-East) and Masca in the Teno Mountains (in the North-West of the island). A memorable holiday. We have never felt we would wish to return to one particular hotel and resort before, but now we've changed our minds!"

Carrick Travel Cheylesmore Coventry

Hi,

I`m writing you a quick message as I wish to pass on a message of how impressed and hard working Donna Hill has been at the Coventry branch with planning/processing/booking our Honeymoon.

She has taken a lot of time and effort and spend many hours of the phone for us booking and recieving quotes. I travelled through the North and South islands. I had a fantastic time and experienced so much from a cruise around the Bay of Islands to jet boating in Queenstown and even sailing a yacht in Auckland. The most spectacular part of my trip, I thought though, was Mount Cook - breathtaking! So if you are thinking of taking a trip to New Zealand. Why not give me a call or email me.
